Fall is upon us and winter is not far behind. It seems like the change of seasons can happen abruptly in the Truckee Meadows. Take last weekend for instance, we experienced temps in the 90's and on the following Monday, we were in the 50's with high winds that included gusts up to 50 mph. It's time to unpack a few pieces (if not all) of your cool weather apparel. The Northern Nevada saying that comes to mind is, "If you don't like the weather, just wait an hour and it will change." Since living in Nevada, I have experienced sunshine, rain, snow, hail and wind all during the same round of golf. Fortunately, we experience mild winters for the most part and get to play year round. Some say that we're in the banana belt of our particular region giving us more playable days than other local courses.
I want to thank you for helping us have another successful season at D'Andrea Golf Club! As everyone knows, the year has been economically challenging for almost every business sector.
Hone your skills! The off season is always a great time to work on your game. There are plenty of warm, sunny days to take lessons and practice throughout the Fall and Winter. We will be offering group and individual lessons, short game clinics, long game clinics and playing lessons from our Professional Staff over the next several months.
The fall has arrived, football season is in full swing and the daytime temperatures are perfect for golf. Can you tell I just love the fall! Along with all the wonders of fall come the always-popular "Frost Delays". A necessary evil when it comes to protecting our golf course. The turfgrass leaf blade is composed of nearly 90% water. When our air temperatures are hovering between 20-40 degrees the potential for frost exists. The water within the leaf blade will freeze making the plant extremely vulnerable. While the leaf is frozen any amount of traffic may snap or crush the leaf causing unwanted damage. So bear with us during these times and keep in mind we are doing it for a better golf experience and course condition. We're doing it for you!
